Cornelis Backer meerdere percelen van de Laardereng om deze tot \u00e9\u00e9n geheel te maken. Op het hoogste punt liet hij zijn landhuis bouwen, Larenberg. Het huis werd in 1834 ontworpen door architect J.D. Zocher jr., die ook de bijgebouwen en de parkaanleg ontwierp. Zo ontstond een nauwkeurig uitgedachte eenheid van vergezichten, kronkelende paden en gebouwen die perfect in het landschap pasten.<\/p>\n<p>Het gepleisterde blokvormige landhuis, onderdeel van het rijksbeschermde \u2019complex historische buitenplaats\u2019,\u00a0 werd in 1834 gebouwd in de neoclassicistische stijl.\u00a0 Het huis op rechthoekige plattegrond is zo ontworpen dat de belangrijkste woonvertrekken zodanig gesitueerd zijn dat het uitzicht optimaal tot zijn recht komt. Omstreeks 1870 werd het huis nog ingrijpend veranderd door de toevoeging van een middenrisaliet met halfrond balkon en terras aan de zuidoostzijde.
